CHARLES CONRAD,JR. 1930-1999Charles "Pete" Conrad, Jr. was an American naval officer, astronaut and engineer. The third person to walk on the Moon, he flew on the Gemini 5 and 11, Apollo 12, and Skylab 2 missions.

On the launch of his Gemini 5 flight on August 21, 1965, Conrad became the 10th American and the 20th human to fly in space.

A Princeton graduate, Mr. Conrad entered the Navy and became a naval aviator then a Project Test Pilot & later as an instructor pilot in F4H Phantoms on VF-121 then assigned duty in VF-96 on board the USS Ranger.

Conrad became a NASA astronaut in 1962. Gemini V was his first flight establishing the space endurance record placing the United States in the lead for man-hours in space. As commander of Gemini XI, Mr. Conrad helped to set a world's altitude record. He was the commander of Apollo XII, the second lunar landing. Mr. Conrad's final mission was commander of Skylab II, the first United States Space Station.

After retiring from the Navy he became Vice President - Operations and Chief Operating Office of American Television and Communications Corporation (ATC), where he was responsible for the operation of existing systems and the national development of new cable television systems. In 1976 he became Vice President and consultant to McDonnell Douglas Corporation, responsible for all commercial and military sales for Douglas Aircraft Company. An Elementary student, Dale Morrison, wrote a 13 page "Story" about "PETE THE ASTRONAUT" with numerous illustrations all in crayon. At some point it was presented to Mr. Conrad who was thoughtful enough to write a note on the first page in bule ballpoint pen,To Dale, Keep up the good work & Someday you can ride in a rocket with "Uncle Pete" Charles Conrad

The note, in MINT condition, is CERTAINLY A ONE OF A KIND ITEM & can be framed or exhibited in its original booklet form.
